EU funded AWARE Project conducts the regional study tour for mass media and private sector at “green” small and medium enterprises

BISHKEK – On April 29-30, 2014 the European Union financed «Targeted awareness raising for enhanced EU-CA partnership» project (AWARE) being implemented by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) conducts the Regional study tour for mass media and private sector at “green” small and medium sized enterprises that experiencing the “green” practices. The journalists and private sector representatives from all five countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan – are taking part at this tour.
Regional training workshop demonstrating best business practices in the field of sustainable consumption and production and the introduction of “green” technologies in the Kyrgyz Republic, organized by CAREC aims to increase the knowledge and skills of journalists from Central Asia, as well as the exchange of experience among entrepreneurs in the region.

Study tour participants will visit the “green” companies, learn about the “green” technologies, will communicate with managers and employees of companies. The program includes: a visit to a farm, which has the biogas plant and organic fertilizers being used; the experience of solar power systems, which had been successfully installed at the recreation center; and a visit to the hotel under construction, where the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies is involved.
According to the results of study tour, journalists shall write articles, and get them reviewed by business participants. The professional coach, consultant on journalism shall also give its own recommendations. Representatives of the business enterprises of the Central Asian countries implementing the “green” practices meet with their “ideological colleagues” and become familiar with the capabilities of other countries and will comment on articles of journalists.

The Project of awareness raising funded by EU is under implementation by CAREC in five states of CA: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan along three directions:

  • Awareness raising as to the use of return water and recycling/turnover water supply as a measure aimed at filling in gaps in water resource management;
  • Awareness raising as to the most applicable practices such as System of Environmental Information Sharing (SEIS) and etc.
  • Ensuring private sector involvement into the processes of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) and energy efficiency increase (EE) as essential components for public-private partnership (PPP) through awareness raising.
