The mission of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) is to promote multi-sector cooperation in addressing environmental problems in Central Asia at the local, national and regional levels, thus making its contribution to the sustainable development of countries of Central Asia. As part of this mission, CAREC has established a “Climate Change and Sustainable Energy” Program, whose main purpose is to contribute to the development of renewable energy, energy efficiency and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases in Central Asian. To identify gaps and missed opportunities in the region with regard to climate change and energy efficiency, the Program conducted a survey among organizations and experts that work in the relevant fields in the countries of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan).
This publication is a compilation of responses and recommendations received from these organizations and experts, and identifies key directions for the work of CAREC in the field of climate change and energy efficiency in Central Asia.
