Job Title: Expert on Adaptation to Climate Change
Term of Employment: September 1, 2012 – March 15, 2013, with the prospects of extension

Brief Description of the Project:
The Project has been implemented by CAREC under the framework of Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) since August 2010. The key partner of the project is the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). APAN in Central Asia aims at the regional dialogue, consultations and collaboration; inventory and exchange of best international and regional practices (models, methods, programmes, approaches, lessons learnt, etc.) within and between Central Asian countries, integration of analytical knowledge into programme development and implementation of practical activities, stakeholder capacity building in adaptation.

Core responsibilities:

  • To prepare report – Inventory of current trends of projects and activities in climate change adaptation in Central Asia
  • To prepare a policy brief on key topics (agriculture and water resources) in climate change adaptation in Central Asia
  • To organize and conduct a sub-regional Central Asia Conference on climate change adaptation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
  • To prepare quarterly CA summary progress reports, and regularly send CA adaptation news digests
  • To present the results of project research and the outcomes of project activities at relevant meetings and seminars
  • To ensure information exchange and collaboration with partners and stakeholders in Central Asia
  • To participate in implementation of other related projects within Environmental Management Program of CAREC
  • To prepare the final project implementation report with recommendations on subsequent activities in the region

Basic requirements:

  • Degree in natural or exact sciences, or humanities
  • Working experience in projects or programmes in water and/or land management in Central Asia; solid understanding of climate change issues, vulnerability and adaptation in Central Asia is preferable
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Competence in preparing analytical reports and articles
  • Fluent Russian, good English is an advantage
  • Vigorous organizational, professional and communication skills, proven ability to work in a team-oriented environment and contribute to team achievements
  • Mobility and ability to travel within and outside the region
