Donor: European Union
Project implementation period: 12.2011 – 12.2013
Coverage of countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan
Budget: 950 000 EURO
The concept:
The Central Asian region, comprising Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and has a unique geographical location. Perched between Europe and Asia, the region bears high geopolitical importance. The CA states are highly vulnerable to changes in the ecosystems they share and depend on. The current environmental situation in CA calls for urgent solutions in water management, energy efficiency, environmental governance and integration.
Awareness raising in the above three areas is a key prerequisite for the required application and enforcement of environmental governance and is crucially linked to enhancing regional cooperation and partnership within the European Union and Central Asia Strategy for a New Partnership. The project will support and establish national and regional platforms: a Knowledge Platform for EU-CA Partnership, Green Business Club and Sustainability Award in Central Asia, and the Green Media network for multistakeholders cooperation, sharing of information and experiences in order to find new solutions, new ways of implementation, interaction and cooperation between the governments and other stakeholders for solving longstanding environmental problems in the region.
Goal:
Increasing awareness on the most problematic environmental issues in water management, environmental governance and climate change to enhance regional cooperation and EU-CA cooperation and partnership.
Based on the past experiences an innovative approach in awareness raising the project will focus on:
